Philippians 4:13
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"

What will we learn this year?

This year your student will learn many exciting things!  Here is a quick overview of some things we will be studying .

*Bible:  We will learn all about salvation, creation, accounts from the book of Genesis, many things about the life of Christ and study the life of Paul.  We will memorize many passages and learn lots of fun songs about Jesus.  The memory verses will be posted on this site as well as a printout that will be sent home.

*Math:  Among the things we will learn will be counting to 1000, identifying numbers that come before and after, and learn place value.   We will memorize our addition and subtraction facts through 13, learn to tell time, count and combine coins, learn how to use a ruler, and learn how to read a thermometer.

    * Writing:  We are working hard every day on learning our cusive letters!  Please encourage your students in this as it is just plain, hard work!!  Once they get it down, I think you will be amazed at how wonderfully your child will be able to write!

     *Phonics/Language and Spelling:

           Phonics

There are many aspects to becoming a good reader.  Learning the short and long vowell sounds and concentrating on phonics blends and sounds are what help reading make sense. We have a special friend who comes to visit us when we learn a new sound. Her name is Red and she is quite vivacious!  My goal is to help your child become fluid and  able to comprehend what they are reading so that they will lvoe it!!

            Language

In language,We will begin to focus on writing sentences:  beginning with a capital letter, ending with a period, etc.  We will learn about suffixes and prefixes, syllables, compound words, rhyming words, synonyms and antonyms, and alphabetizing.

           Spelling

New spelling lists will be sent home the day after a test .  I will also post them to this website.  Please be practicing each night with your child!

*Reading:   Reading homework will start early in the year.  Each student will be expected to read for 5-20 min. a night depending on their ability.  If you start small and add on a minute a day, they'll be up to 20 minutes in no time at all!  I'm sure they will look forward to this special time with you!

*Activity Time: This is our time of the day that includes history and geography, science, health and art.  These subjects have an overview of many fun aspects in each subject.  Your child will enjoy this time of exploring!
